update on school

We decided to keep Spice at her preschool. Even though we weren't please with how things were handled with everything going on for us right now it made sense.

She loves her teacher and has made lots of friends. I just didn't want to make more changes to her routine than what's she's already experience the last month or so.

I took her to Solantic and got the form she needed so she didn't miss any days of school at all.

She's happy and that's all that matters to us.

I got my answer

School started for both girls last week. Sugar started 1st grade and Spice is in prek. Our state has a voluntary program that they pay for we took advantage of it when Sugar was 4. I decided to send Spice back to the same little school that Sugar went to since we were familiar with it. Mainly because they offered morning and afternoon carline. I wouldn't have to get out to take her into school each morning or to pick her up. I turned in her voucher back in February so ensure she had a spot. Before my mom left I went and got her exemption for her shots to finish off the final paper work for her to attend school.

We received a letter in July letting us know what time her class was. I expected it to be from 9-12:00 but she was in the 8:30-11:30 class. I was a little worried about this because Sugar starts school at 8:30 and wondering how I'd get them to school on time. Really the first day was the only issue we had and Spice was a little late. Other than that it has worked out great. We were unable to attend the parent/teacher conference before school since it was the day we got home with monkey. Chief called and explained why we wouldn't be there. I hated missing that meeting but there wasn't anything we could do.

Anyway first day of school we find out there is no drop off carline only pick up. That means taking monkey out and walking her in every morning. The parking lot is really small this place is a daycare that offers preschool so not only do you have parents dropping off for preschool there are parents dropping off for daycare too. That's the other reason carline was a good idea. But I guess they thought  they could avoid this but staggering the times the classes start for preschool. Spice is in the first one of the day. Afternoon carline went ok, they have gotten a new director and assistant director since Sugar went there and they don't seem as organized as the one that was there when Sugar went there.

Second day of school we find out there will no longer be afternoon carline. They don't feel it's necessary. This is strike 2 for us, strike 1 is that the new director isn't very personable and I don't really care of her. But I can't like everyone so I was overlooking it but Chief wanted to move her to another school. I was annoyed by it too but she likes her teacher and has made friends. I was just going to let it slide since she was happy. It was an annoyance for us more than anything.

On Weds the assistant director mentions that they need Spice's school physical form. I told her I'd get it taken care of and bring it in. That was at the end of the day on weds. and of course If forgot to call to get her an appointment. It gets hectic in the afternoons for us. Yesterday in her take home folder there is a note. It stated that if her physical form wasn't turned in by Tues the 6th that she could no longer attend school until they received it. It's Friday and Monday is a holiday. That doesn't give me a lot of time to get it done.  I call to get her an appointment for Tues. There are no appointments until the 29th of this month. I call the school to explain this and ask what can be done. I was hoping they'd just tell me as long as she has an appointment then it will be fine. No she can not return to school until I have the form to turn in, they can't do anything about it because it' comes from DCF. Here's the catch this is a state funded program and they kids are only allowed 3 unexcused absences a month. IF she does not go back until after her appointment then she loses her spot in the program. I was mad! I can't understand why this wasn't brought to my attention earlier. They've known about this since the first day of school and before that that they paper wasn't in her file. I'm finding it really hard to understand why this wasn't brought to our attention sooner. I got really upset when the assistant director tells me it's all MY fault because it was in the packet they gave me right next to needing her shot records. I told her I take responsibility for over looking that but it was their job to at least remind me sooner that I had over looked it. Now my child won't be able to attend school because of it. I was so mad if I could have I"d be spitting nails.

Here's the other thing I can't just go in there and request her voucher back. I have to unenroll her from the school, go back to the office that gives out the vouchers and get another one. It's at the beginning of the school year so finding a good school that we like isn't going to be easy.

I did call the appointment line back and found out I need to call them this weekend to see if there were any cancellations for Tues or Weds so that I can get Spice in sooner to be seen.

I made another call to the Children's commission that gives out the vouchers to see what I need to do get a new one.

Spice and I went to another school that a friends son goes to and get an application. They have one spot left. They go 4 day's a week and provide lunch. It's 1 hr longer than where is goes right now. I liked the playground and the class room was big and bright. I"m just not feeling good about the whole thing. I hate the idea of moving her since she's made friends already.  She has been doing a lot better the last 2 weeks.

I do feel like since we had already thought about moving her that this is what we needed to make the decision to move her. I"m just unsure about it. Maybe it's me not wanting the change or going through the hassle of moving her. I do know she needs to be in school and we are going to have make a decision.

Time Managment

I am having a hard time with  "time management"  in the mornings. I'm not a morning person. My most favorite thing to do in the morning is gradually wake up especially if it's chilly. And lately it's been nice a cool in the house in the mornings.

Most morning's we roll out of bed around 7:15 or later. This does not give us enough time to get ready if I'm walking Sugar into school. We need to leave our house around 8:05am.  The morning goes much smoother if I can just drop her off at the door. That way I can hold off on my shower and wait to get dressed.

The other day I realized that I should probably just get up early and get what I needed to done so I wasn't rushed in the mornings. But waking up before seven seems so hard for me. Especially if we have had a night with both girls waking up repeatedly during the night. Which they still do at 3 and 5, that's another post all together.

Hopefully with the next few weeks I can get a little better with this.

1 week

We have a week left until school starts. I thought I was ready but I'm not. Sugar is very excited to be starting kindergarten. She is such a social little girl. I'm afraid that I'm going to get notes sent home daily about how much she talks in class. I think I'm over leaving her at that big school for 6 hours a day {maybe not}. I hate that our lazy summer routine is going to end. I still need to enroll her in ballet classes for the year. I NEED to do that this week. Classes start the week after school.

An update on my weight loss, I'm down 11 lbs since I started with the Body By Vi Challenge. It's a little slower for me than some of hte others that are on it with me. But the point is that I'm losing. I've lost hte most of it in the last 2 weeks. I'm only replacing one meal a day. IT seems to work better for me that way.

Well I need to get moving this morning. Have a great day!

Who is in your family?

In Aynslee's class this week they were learning about families. They were asked, "Who is in your family?" and to draw a picture of the people in their family. Aynslee drew her sister and this is what she told her teacher.............

"This is my sister Avery, she's always grouchy and she be's really naughty and she is bad and goes to time out when she hits someone, that's what she doos." Aynslee 4yrs Sept 2009

Open House

Yesterday was Aynslee's open house at school. We met her teacher and the teachers assistant. Also a few of her classmates. She didn't want to leave. She kept staying, "5 more minutes mommy." I finally got her to agree to leave. She is even more excited about school starting.

However, mommy is not. I was really looking forward to it but then the reality of it hit me. My baby is growing up. Really growing up, she's going to school. Our care free day's are gone, getting up whenever we want, staying in our pj's all day if we want.

I know she is going to do GREAT and LOVE learning new things and making new friends.

And somehow I'll learn to deal with all these changes.

Preschool

I have finally taken the time to start doing some research into the Preschools in our area for Aynslee next year. I am glad that I started now. It was prompted this morning while at Story time with a few of the mommies in our playgroup. She mentioned the school I had in mind and had already called and found out the times and programs, etc. Then there was one other one mentioned near us that I didn't realize was a Preschool I thought it was a daycare.

I called them this afternoon. The pro to this school is that it is about 5 miles from our house. They have 3, VPK 4 classes that are funded by the state, two morning classes and one afternoon class. They also have a 2 year old program that I can enroll Avery in a few days a week. The cons is that it's 5 days a week, 3 hours a day. The 3 hours a day I like but I am not sure that either one of us will be ready for an entire week of school. For more it's the getting her there on time every day. The only other con I can come up with at this point is the cost for the 2yr old program, a maxi um of 3 days a week is $140. it's the same price if she goes 1 or 2 days that might be deal breaker for me. That seems like a lot. I am still planning on doing a tour of the school in the next few weeks. Probably on a Monday before Josh has to go to work so he can help me decide.

The other school that I really was leaning toward. I found out does the 4 yr old class only on M-W-F. which I do like but the 2yr old class is only on T-Thurs because they need the class rooms. I haven't found out the price for that one yet. I might enroll Aynslee at the other school if we like it and Avery in this 2 day a week program if it isn't to expensive. She doesn't have to be in school I just thought to give myself a break in the fall while Josh was gone it might be a good idea to do this. That way I can go out shopping alone or get errands and get a much needed break. Having the girls 27/7 without a break for that long will wear on me and I know I will need time to regroup myself so I don't feel as overwhelmed as I know I will be over those 13 months.

There is one more thing. The lady I spoke with today said the earlier the better to get her enrolled in that school. Which means getting her vaccine paper work in order. I will have to speak to the teacher there that has worked with parents whose children have the religious exemption. But before I even make an appointment to have that done with the health department we need to have Aynslee tested for food allergies in case she does qualify for a medical exemption which I wouldn't be surprised that she did. An egg allergy is hereditary and the shot she reacted to when she was small had eggs in it.

I thought I could wait until spring for all this stuff but it looks like we will start this whole getting ready for Preschool process a lot earlier than I thought.
