Not a very happy Valentine's day.

We've been sick. Yeah I know your thinking again. That's exactly how I feel. I came down with a slight fever on Thurs night and became progressively worse on Friday with chills and cold like symptoms. Saturday I started with a sore throat. I spent most of the day napping off and on. Thank good Grandma is here cause she took care of the girls for me. Then I woke up about 3:00am on Sat with a fever of 101.6 and a very severe sore throat with some ear pain. Since I'm pregnant I didn't want to take any chances and took myself to the ER. I was diagnoised with Strep and given a Zpak.

On Sunday Sugar went to bed with me and I noticed she was warm. I checked her temp it was 100. something no biggie. She was acting fine. I gave her some tylenol and she went to sleep. She woke up on Monday with a fever of 101 something. I kept her home from school. {which did not go over well} We started with gatorade, etc. I went to check on her and she was laying in her bed, really not like her. Gave her some tylenol around 10:00am. I went back in an hour or so later and it her temp was up to 103. Off to the ER we go cause there were no appointments for her. We waited in the ER for over 2 hrs. They gave her some motrin and she slept while we waited and the fever came down. She did not have strep, just a fever. We left with more tylenol and some motrin this time. Spice had also started running a fever.

This morning when Sugar got up her fever was still over a hundred. We went to the chiropractor and by the time we got home her temp was up to 104. My kids have never had a fever that high. So we did motrin, a luke warm bath and some cold compresses. It has come down to 100.4.

Spice threw up on us while we were out at lunch today. And her fever went up to 102. She was pretty hot last night around midnight. She needed some motrin cause she had already taken tylenol. I was able to bribe her to take it. Tonight she was a little more difficult. I give her the chewable tylenol's which dont' cause an issue but for some reason anything liquid she get's hysterical. It's really funny to watch her. I managed to get some motrin in her tonight along with a warm bath.

I'm just hoping that tomorrow we're all on the mend. Grandma has a cold too.

So needless to say we did not have a very happy valentine's day this year.

Why is it that...........

as soon as he leaves one or all of us get sick.

Sugar had a runny nose/cough for a few days. Spice started throwing up on the way to drop Chief off at the terminal on Tues. We couldn't figure out what was going on, no fever and really no other symptoms. She was fine after we got there and played with her sister and made a new friend.

During the night that night she woke up with congestion and when she got up Weds morning she was complaining of an earache. I had woken up with a sore throat and my nose became progressively runny throughout the day. I was able to get Spice an appointment, the last one happened to be in the morning and worked in time for me to still be able to pick Sugar up from school.

She has a confirmed ear infection. This one is tricky. She throws up medicine. I can not get her to take liquid fever reducers. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen. The Dr discussed our options 3 different liquid meds or 3 days of shots. I decided for the liquid medicine first in hopes I could get her to take it to avoid the shots. She gave me a stronger medicine that she only has to take once a day for 10 days. Thankfully I've been able to get her to take it.

Honestly you'd never know she was sick. She's been acting fine, no fever, no more vomiting.

But today, I'm worse. I'm hoping this isn't a sinus infection. Tomorrow is Friday and Monday is a holiday around here, so for me to get an apppointment might be difficult.

I'm just looking forward to Sat when we can sit around in our pj's all.day.long. Ahhh I can't wait.

Germs, germs go away don't come another day!

Yep, I'm not feeling good again. I started this post I think on Weds. By Friday the sore throat had not gone away and it was feeling like fire when I swallowed. I called get to get myself an appointment but my clinic was full and the only accute care appointment available was for 7:40pm. I don't think so.....I was told I could go over to Scolatic urgent care. After I dropped Sugar off at school Spice and I headed over to get checked out.

Guess what?

It's strep. Aggg! I took the easy road and just purchased my meds there for $5.00. Even after a full day on the meds my throat was still yucky, mostly when I ate it felt like sandpaper when swallowing. Talking to long was making it hurt too.

However today I'm feeling much better. I still can't drink my soda it burns when I swallow it but eating isn't a big issue.

I hope this time we can kick this in the behind and it stays away. It's really not fun!

it's my turn now.....

I woke up Sunday with a sore throat. I thought maybe it would go away but did not. I already had an appointment for yesterday morning to see my doc. Thank goodness I did cause I have strep. Yep the family that loves each other passes germs around.

Keeping my fingers crossed Spice doesn't get it cause she kept stealing my water bottle over the weekend. DH and I shared a drink on Sunday too. So I'm just waiting for him to tell me his throat is hurting.

The doc gave me some meds and I woke up this morning feeling better. At least the sore throat was gone. I did go to sleep last night at nine o'clock.

It's just about time to go pick Sugar up from school so I' better start getting ready.

Strep

It seems like every time DH is gone we end up in the ER for something. On Sunday Sugar started to complain of a sore throat, so we stayed home from church and just hung around the house. I had had a sore throat on Thurs so I figured we were passing it around. Yesterday, she was still complaining of a sore throat. I had decided to get them each a happy meal and take the them to the new park on base to play for a while. When I was getting Sugar dressed I took the flashlight and looked in her throat the best I could. It was red and there were white bumps on the right side. I called to try to get her an appointment in acute care since her clinic was closed due to the holiday but they were booked. ER it would have to be. Thankfully we didn't have to wait long. We were there an hour at most. The doc that looked at her gave us an antibiotic for Strep. She has to stay home today but he said she could go back to school on Weds.

I did take them to the park for a little bit. They both really wanted to go and it wasn't to terribly hot.

However, I know my Sugar didn't feel well because when I decided it was time to go she didn't protest at all. And when we got home she laid down on the couch with her pillow and blanket for a while. In fact except for the little bit at the park yesterday she didn't play much at all. :(

sick again

This time it's me.

I'm never this sick, maybe 1 cold a year. But this the the 3rd one since July, really I'm over it.

This time it just came out of no where. I was fine on Friday but during the night I woke up conjested and having trouble breathing. Sat was spent feeling really terrible and then yesterday the terrible cough started. I coughed most of the night last night, not much sleep.

Hopefully this won't drag on like the last cold I had and will be gone soon.

I hate feeling yucky.

We've had the sickies.

This is has been a record week in our house for us being sick. My kids are rarely sick but I guess with school starting we get to enjoy the concept of germ sharing.

Aynslee started last week with a fever and missed school on Friday. On Sat night Avery woke up throwing up and running fever. She refused to take anything to reduce the fever which got up to 103. so I took her to the ER on Sunday. Her diagnosis was upper respiratory infection. I was irritated to say the least with Doctor that saw her. He didn't even check her for the flu or strep which I think should be a given seeing that we've had a lot of cases of it in the area. There was a few kids at Aynslee's school with the H1N1 virus.

After I got home on Sunday with Avery I noticed Aynlsee wasn't acting like herself. Her fever was back, but no other symptoms.

I went to bed early on Sunday hoping to get more rest since Sat night I was up a lot checking on Avery. About an hour after I went to sleep, Avery came into my room and started to throw up. She did that every 15-20 minutes for a few hours. We finally got in bed and slept for a few hours.

Monday I sent Aynslee to school her fever had been gone for almost 24 hours. I hate her to miss school. On Monday night Aynslee threw up only once and had no fever.

Weds was a day off for her so we just stayed home. I started to get the beginnings of a cold. I'd had a scratchy sore throat for a few days. Weds night she woke up and said her ear hurt. She slept terribly for a while complaining that it hurt. So yesterday morning I checked her when she got up, another fever. I got her an appointment to be checked. It's not a ear infection yet but could turn into one because the ear drum was bulging. I came home with an antibiotic and more Tylenol for her. The antibiotic is just in case so I don't have to go in over the weekend to the ER if her ear is still bothering her. But she has a nasty cough no more fever since yesterday morning. By the time I got her to the Dr's her fever was gone. I didn't give her anything for it before we left. I was in a hurry to get out the door since I had gotten us an early appointment.

They seem to be on the mend this morning.

If this is what having a school age child means I think we might homeschool. :o)

Avery

My little Avery is very sick. She woke up last night around 11:00pm throwing up. She had a fever before bedtime but was acting normal. I tried to give her some motrin and tylenol but she screamed and refused to take it this was before bed. After I cleaned her up I put her to bed in my room in the toddler bed with a bowl and some gatorade. I woke up around five this morning and felt her head which felt very hot. I decided to try to give her some more medicine. That sent her into a gagging and throw up episode. Her temp was 102.1, I gave her another bath. Then tried to give her more medicine this time trying to get her to drink it out of the cup. She refused.

We went back to bed and she slept until 8:00am. Right now she is eating a popcisle.

So what do you do when your child won't take the fever reducing medicine?

a case of the sickies

Yesterday I spent my morning hovering over the porcelain God that is otherwise known as "the potty" according to Aynslee.

It seems I caught some sort of virus that thankfully didn't last all that long. It hit Aynslee as well but children are resilient after her bout with the God she was fine and dandy the rest of the day. Whilst I laid around feeling weak and crappy not wanting to eat anything other than crackers.

I'll be back to report on Monday about my amazing weight loss this week.

the sickies

The girls and I are under the weather. On Friday I started with a scratchy sore throat, by sat it was gone but I had some other issues. I'll spare the details. Then I woke up on Sunday sounding terrible and I had the starting of a cough. But I was asked to teach in Relief Society so I just went to church, plus we had dinner on the grounds and I had everything ready for that.

By the afternoon I was worse and feeling really badly. The cough was worse on Monday but isn't as bad today. I just feel tired. Now both of the girls have runny noses. It isn't stopping Aynslee much. But Avery has been irritable, she is taking her afternoon nap right now.

I know this crazy weather we are having isn't helping matters. On Weds and Thurs it was in the 80's on Sat the temps started to dropped and it was really cool on Sunday like mid 60's for a high. I know most of you are thinking that isn't cold but for here it is especially when in a few days it will probably be in the mid to upper 70's again possible low 80's. I just hope we can get rid of this and keep it gone. I had something similar to this when my mom was here a few weeks ago. I thought maybe it was allergy related but I am not sure.

We don't have any plans this week except for staying home and keeping warm. And getting a few craft projects done.
